A Perfect Saturday Night — Dinner, Drinks & a Little Theater!
Last night was one of those nights when everything just came together perfectly!
We were invited to see Moon Over Buffalo at Castle Craig Players, a wonderful little theater in Meriden, CT. -But first, dinner!
Our friends Charlie and Kathy recommended Mercado, a new restaurant in Cheshire, CT and wow, what a great recommendation!
Now, silly us, we showed up on a Saturday night without reservations. The only seating available was outside, and since it was our first really chilly October night, I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of freezing while trying to enjoy dinner.
Well, was I pleasantly surprised!
Between the overhead heaters and fire pits, the outdoor dining area was so warm, cozy, and inviting that I completely forgot about the chilly weather. In fact, I loved sitting out there!
And the food? Amazing!
They started us off with warm bread served with a delicious olive oil and garlic dip. Oh my goodness, I could have made a meal out of that alone!
I ordered a salad with grilled peaches, baby greens, Gorgonzola, and grilled chicken, all tossed in a delicious vinaigrette. It was absolutely to die for! Every bite was a perfect combination of flavors.
Vinny and I also shared a sausage and broccoli rabe pizza, fresh from their pizza oven. Another winner! Charlie and Kathy loved their meals too, although for the life of me I can’t remember what they ordered. Lol!
The service was absolutely perfect. Attentive, friendly, and everything you want when you’re out enjoying an evening with friends.
And let’s talk about the atmosphere! The decor was so cool, the vibe was upbeat, and the music playing in the background added just the right energy. It was lively without taking away from our conversation.
And you know me, I notice the details! Even the ladies’ room was beautifully done and just as cool as the rest of the restaurant. I love when a place carries its style through every space!
After dinner, we headed to Castle Craig Players in Meriden to see Moon Over Buffalo. What a great show! There’s something really special about these smaller theaters, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Great food, great friends, a wonderful show, and lots of laughs. What more could you ask for?
Mercado, we’ll definitely be back! And Castle Craig Players, we’ll be keeping an eye on your upcoming productions!
Sometimes the best nights are right in our own backyard.
